Have you noticed that the world keeps on spinning even after we get bad news? Of course you have! It seems like it should at least stop for a moment and acknowledge the fact that there is something different about life. But oh no….the sun still shines (or it snows), a new day dawns and people keep on living their lives.
Cancer arrived just in time to celebrate my 52nd birthday with me even though it WAS NOT invited. As a matter of fact it is an unwelcome guest. I could tell it to leave, but it won’t. It has comfortably parked its behind in my life, has it’s feet up and is reading the paper.
How does a person celebrate anything when you have been given “bad news” and your world has forever changed? My answer is you just decide to keep living. You watch the sun shine or the snow fall, you take pleasure in your family, you laugh and you celebrate life, you eat chocolate! Each day is a gift. We cannot do anything about the circumstances that arise in our lives but we can decide how we handle the circumstances. That is totally our choice.
I have always enjoyed my birthdays and today will be no different. So, my choice today is to enjoy my special day and celebrate it (by eating chocolate!). I am grateful that I have another day of life to live. And by the way…I expect to celebrate many more birthdays. Each one is a gift from the Lord and it means He is not done with me, just as He is not done with you.
Ecclesiates 3:1-8
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time to war and a time for peace.
My heart is full of the many things I have to be thankful for.
Love,
Carmel
Sister, we are all praising God with you in this good news you received. God is so good and greatly to be praised. He is good even when things arent good and may we always remember that. Now go eat some more chocolate.
